Pick Of The Day - Morgan Silk

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

I recently visited the Crane Kalman gallery in Brighton. They have a show on at the moment entitled: Blue. With photographs from the likes of: Slim Aarons, Rob Carter, Jeff Divine, Hugh Holland, Karine Laval, Christoph Morlinghaus. Wendy Pye and Morgan Silk.

The show is on until the end of August, so you have a little time to get down there and have a look for yourself. After all, there is nothing like seeing a real print, right!?

I was struck by a particular image by Morgan Silk entitled: Telecom Italia. Purely on aesthetics, the geometric framing that the telephone booth gives the shot, the orange telephone and of course the sun-drenched blue busting through the windows at you.

I thought I wasn’t aware of his work, until I got back home and Googled him to find out actually I recognised quite a few of his images from various publications. Especially the US Navy Seals series.

His site is definitely worth checking out and if you can get to the show or see any of his work, I’d highly recommend it.

Pick of the Day

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

This new feature barely needs an explanation - good photography related material, served daily.

First up is Toby Smith’s ‘Light After Dark’ project which shows England’s 32 active power stations, captured “between sunset and sunrise with colour film exposures between 2 minutes and 2 hours”.

The photo above is Eggborough 1. Click on the photo to visit the project gallery.
