Charity Print Auctions - Japan

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

While you are waiting for the gallery to get up and running once again, you might like to satisfy your desire for new prints by visiting the Charity Print Auctions for Japan group on Flickr.

The group was first started last year by Nova partner Andy in response to the Haiti Earthquake disaster. Photographer’s submit images for sale as prints and the winning bid for each print is donated to a disaster relief charity. The group’s Haiti appeal eventually raised an amazing £18k.

There are lots of great prints to bid on, and to give you a taster, here are some by participating Nova Photographers.

Site Update

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Apologies for the sparsity of updates.

The development of our sister site, Nova Photography, offering photography training, wedding photography and commercial photography, has taken somewhat longer than expected, however it is now up & running so we are looking to now focus on the gallery updates.

The aim is to complete the gallery work during April, with the intention of offering our next print on May 17th.

In the meantime, we will get back to updating the blog and pointing you in the direction of some fantastic photography.

Once again, apologies for the delay - and watch this space!

Site Redesign & Improvements

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Please note that there will be a hiatus in our regular fortnightly editions whilst we finish a site redesign and implement a bunch of improvements. We expect to be able to bring you an updated site and make our next print on available on Tuesday March 1st 2011.

The site improvements are primarily aimed at improving navigability and facilitating better purchasing and special offers. We will also be offering a more varied range of material, some special collections and some interesting editions.

In the meantime, all our prints are of course still available. We will also still be regularly updating this blog, which is also where to come for any additional news on the site redesign. Watch this space!

Pick of the Day - The Bus (Personal) by Marian Pislaru

Artist’s statement: “For me, every man is a story. Although I can not read the beginning nor the ending of it, I am extremely lucky to read at least one chapter of the story. Despite the fact these men and women are part of my daily routine I don’t know their names. Should I? I guess I get more than that. I see a driver opening the doors with the pinkie because of his greasy hands, the tidiness of a female driver’s dashboard, a sticker of the driver’s son superhero, food likings, vices, received gifts, music tastes, religious beliefs and so on. Personal objects and habits make you feel more like home. A two by three inches stuffed toy or a four by six inches photo bring the beloved ones back into the driver’s cabin. The man is modelling continuously his workplace to obtain the comfort and the warmth of home, to work easier and to banish the boredom and the loneliness of this job. These seemingly insignificant little things tell me the chapters that compose my story: Personal.”

New Featured Photograph - ‘Christmas Tree, Alley’ by David Schalliol

Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

For our final offering before Christmas we bring you a rather ‘new topographical’ take on the holiday season.

‘Christmas Tree, Alley’ from David Schalliol shows an otherwise unremarkable alley in Phoenix, Arizona, brought to life by an individual expression of Christmas spirit.

As a photographer and sociologist, David Schalliol is interested how people organize the world around them. He’s particularly known for his Isolated Building Studies project, which examines the divergent investment processes in Chicago neighborhoods. Selected images from this project can be purchased through Catherine Edelman Gallery.

He is currently working on a variety of projects exploring the transformation of urban centers in the United States.

This gorgeous and poignant print is available from just £19…

New Featured Photograph - Wave 3 by Chris Friel

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Today we are delighted to feature Wave 3, our first photograph from Kent based Chris Friel.

Chris is a relatively recent convert to photography from painting. He purchased a camera in 2006 and hasn’t painted since. Being colourblind, he has worked largely in mono, but has recently produced some striking elemental and dreamlike colour landscape photographs.

New Featured Photograph - Rising Tide by Adam Clutterbuck

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Rising Tide

Today we feature ‘Rising Tide’ - a classic mono landscape and the third photograph we have available from Adam Clutterbuck.

Adams says: “This photograph was taken on the rock ledges on the west side of the Welsh coastal town of Porthcawl. A clear evening with little sky interest, I concentrated on the interaction between the incoming tide and the highly textured limestone pavement. To simplify the image, a long exposure of 100 seconds was used to give the smoky quality to the sea.”
