Jon Horvath is an artist residing in southeastern
Wisconsin. He is presently a part-time faculty member
at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and has
also taught at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Horvath received his MFA in Photography at UWM in
December of 2008. His undergraduate studies were completed
at Marquette University where he earned a BA in Philosophy
and a BA in English with an emphasis on fictional
writing.
From the artist: "Much of my current work is
concerned with ideas of reinterpreting our experience
and navigation of the landscape. My process often
takes the form of documenting the spaces within unpredictable
paths of travel. I recently completed the project
Stalking Michael Stipe: Another Prop to Occupy My
Time wherein I followed the rock ‘n roll icon for
36 hours through the Georgia landscape, while he functioned
as an unsuspecting “guide” for a photographic walk.
I am currently working on a series entitled Passages,
using excerpts from Jack Kerouac's On the Road as
source material for a drive on which I will “rewrite”
his words in the landscape by navigating an alphabetically
labeled County Highway system."
